Waimea

Wailea is not a city. It is a planned resort destination on Maui's leeward coast, developed with a coherence rare in American leisure travel. The area receives roughly 300 days of sunshine annually, benefits from minimal rainfall compared to the island's windward side, and was deliberately designed around a continuous beach path connecting five white-sand beaches. That structural intention carries through to its hotels. The properties here tend toward the architecturally considered: open-air lobbies, tropical modernism, and landscaping that works with the volcanic geography rather than against it.
