The Chancery Rosewood London: the former American embassy turned all-suite hotel

In Mayfair, the former United States embassy houses 144 suites designed by Joseph Dirand.
For nearly sixty years, people lined up there to get a visa. Since September 2025, they have been unpacking their bags. On Grosvenor Square, the building designed by Eero Saarinen in 1960 for the United States Embassy has become The Chancery Rosewood, a hotel where every door opens onto a suite.

An embassy reinvented by Chipperfield and Dirand
The embassy moved in 2017. The listed building was restored by architect David Chipperfield, and Frenchman Joseph Dirand designed the interiors: dark wood, marble, brass and soft lighting. On the facade, Theodore Roszak's gilded eagle, fashioned from the aluminum of a B-52 bomber, still watches over the square. No standard rooms here: the 144 accommodations are suites, and the smallest measures 53 m². Eight restaurants and bars complete the setting, including Tobi Masa, signed by New York chef Masayoshi Takayama, and Jacqueline, voted world's best afternoon tea 2026 by La Liste. On the roof, the Eagle Bar overlooks Hyde Park. The Asaya spa features a 25-meter pool, sauna and hammam.

Bleisure or family vacations, both work
The Chancery Rosewood lends itself well to bleisure, that blend of business travel and leisure. Check-in and check-out times are flexible: you settle in after getting off the Eurostar and return your suite after your last meeting. Bond Street station and its Elizabeth line are a five-minute walk away, and a hotel car can take you to your appointments, subject to availability. On weekends, family takes over. Hyde Park and Oxford Street are minutes away, the Serra restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine to share, and cribs and rollaway beds are complimentary up to age 3.
The suites: our three favorites
The suites are divided into four families: junior suites, suites, Signature suites and Houses. The latter are true apartments, named after American figures linked to the building, such as John Adams or Kennedy. Here are the three we recommend.
Grosvenor Junior Suite, the view of the square
This is the entrance to the Chancery, and it is nothing like a small room. Its 53 m² overlook the trees of Grosvenor Square, between the 2nd and 7th floors. Large corner sofa, dressing room, and your choice of a king bed or two single beds. It accommodates two people: perfect for a solo business trip or a weekend for two. The twin version is also suitable for a parent with a child. Price: €2,525 on Sunday, December 6. On Saturday, October 17, it is fully booked and junior suites start at €3,113.

Grand Premier Mews Suite, space for the family
It overlooks the mews side, those old stable alleyways typical of Mayfair, which guarantees peace and quiet. With 122 m² and a view over the city rooftops, the family has plenty of space to spread out. It accommodates up to three people thanks to a sofa bed. For a larger group, it comes in a three-bedroom version of 234 m² for seven people. Price: €9,103 on Saturday, October 17, €8,105 on Sunday, December 6.

Chancery Suite, the office with a view
Our favorite for bleisure. The four Chancery Suites, named Diplomat, Ambassador, Embassy and Alston, each offer 166 m² facing Grosvenor Square. A single bedroom, but a large living room with desk, a table for six, a separate kitchen, an entrance and a guest toilet. You prepare your presentation in the morning, you host a client for dinner in the evening, and the butler handles the rest. A two-bedroom version is available for family stays. Price: €15,153 on Saturday, October 17, €13,038 on Sunday, December 6.
For special occasions, the Houses reach up to 237 m² with the Maison Chancellerie, at €28,191 per night on October 17. On the 7th floor, two penthouses, Charles House and Elizabeth House, crown the collection. Prices verified on October 5, 2026 on Booking for one night and two adults, taxes included, excluding breakfast.
CONCLUSION
People used to come here to get a stamp in their passport. Today they come for a suite just steps away from Hyde Park. Ready to book yours? All Chancery Rosewood suites are on LaSuite.com
