Suite

401+3

Within the former cloister walls of a 17th-century Carmelite convent, this suite occupies 40 square metres of hard-won architectural dialogue. The structure itself dictates the terms: thick stone masonry absorbs sound, regulates temperature, and imposes a discipline on the senses that no modern build can replicate. What Christian Lacroix has done here is not decoration — it is argumentation. His chromatic language, drawn from decades of reading the Camargue's light, arrives in calibrated doses against surfaces that have stood for four centuries. Spatial Poetry The suite is composed as a single, legible sequence — living area folding into sleeping quarter with the logic of a monastic cell expanded for human ease. The proportions are generous without being wasteful. Four guests can move through the space without it losing its sense of containment, which is the harder architectural problem to solve. Material World Lacroix's intervention reads most clearly in the textile and tonal choices: Provençal warmth pressed against cooled plaster, pattern used not as ornament but as structural argument. The palette references the region's ochre quarries and lavender fields without quoting them literally — a distinction that separates vision from pastiche. Exclusive Rituals The suite's position within the former convent gives access to the hotel's cloister garden — one of the most architecturally coherent outdoor spaces in Arles. A dedicated bathroom completes the private envelope. The MGallery framework ensures a baseline of service precision without diluting the property's singular identity. The View as Architecture Arles itself functions as a fifth wall. The city's Roman and Romanesque sediment — arena, amphitheatre, cloister — presses up against the property's edges. Light through the convent's deep-set apertures shifts across the day from cool grey to the saturated amber of the Provençal afternoon. The exterior does not merely exist beyond the glass; it filters in, hour by hour, as a living material.
