You choose this room not for scale but for proximity, the water and the old Shanghai skyline sit close enough to feel like part of the furniture.

The space and flow

At 48 square metres, the room holds a king bed, a separate seating area and a dining table, arranged so the sleeping zone and the social corner read as distinct without a wall between them. A desk sits apart from both, suited to a morning of emails before the view takes over. The private entrance and soundproofing keep the room sealed from corridor noise, and carpeted flooring underfoot softens the transition from the marble of the bathroom.

Design and finishes

Tile and marble flooring anchor the bathroom, which pairs a bath with a separate walk-in shower, a spa tub, and the full set of amenities expected at this level: bathrobe, slippers, pajamas, feather pillow, hypoallergenic linens. A private hot tub extends the bathing ritual further. Toiletries run to shampoo, conditioner, body soap and shower cap, with toothbrush and hand sanitizer provided as standard. The interior language throughout the hotel draws on Joe Cheng's magnolia motif, Shanghai's own flower, translated here in quieter register than the public spaces but present in the room's material restraint.

From the seating area or the bed, the sightline runs toward the river and the landmark skyline beyond it, the exact confluence point that defines this hotel's location next to Waibaidu Bridge. You are visiting Shanghai for three or four nights and want one room that does everything: sleep, work, dine, and look at the river while doing all three. This is the rational entry point into Regent Shanghai on the Bund: smaller than the Seagull or Heavenly suites, but holding the same river-facing privilege that makes this address worth choosing over anywhere else on the Bund. The balcony does the heavy lifting here, and it does it well. Our one note: the walk-in shower's pressure rewards a slow morning, which the dining table and desk both quietly suggest you should allow yourself.
